Much-branched succulent perennial forming tangled clumps to 30 cm high and 75 cm in diam., or more erect to 50 cm high

Branches terete, 5–7-angled, 1–1.5 cm thick; angles very shallowly toothed, with teeth 5–8 mm apart
Morphology General Spines
Spine-shields obtusely oblong-triangular, to 5 x 4 mm, scarcely separated by the flowering-eyes, blackish; spine-pairs robust, varying in length, 2–13 mm long, slightly recurved; prickles vestigial or apparently absent
