Ecology
In savanna and margins of montane forest
Distribution
Mainly central, eastern and northeastern Brazil, extending to Bolivia, with H. arborea (Benth.) Harley occurring in the Guayana Highlands: Venezuela, Guyana and northern Brazil, and disjunctly in the mountains of Colombia (Antioquia) and the Peru/Bolivia
