Sprawling herb; stem trailing for up to 15 cm long with adventitious roots beneath, stem apex upturned and bearing leaves, with branch(es) just below apex to continue stem growth

Leaves up to 8, ± distichous, laterally compressed, to 70 × 3.5 cm, 2.5 cm thick, channelled on upper face, channel to 17 cm long, 10–15 mm deep near base, leaf surface rough, tapering to a red-brown spine to 5 mm long, sharp or blunt; lamina with dark and light green transverse bands and darker green narrow longitudinal lines, edges of channel a redbrown line with narrow colourless flange
