Note
Material from N Zambia and W Tanzania similar to the type of P. primulinus often has the axillary inflorescences condensed together near the top of the stem, and the inflorescences tend to be obviously hairy. Material similar to the type of P. densus from throughout the range of this taxon has laxly disposed axillary inflorescences which tend to be sparsely pubescent. There is no clear discontinuity between these forms.
