Acaulescent herb, with a creeping rhizome up to 0.3–0.4 cm thick

Leaves (1–)2–3 per growth, ascending or suberect, elongate-lanceolate, 60–150 × 5.5–11.5(–13) cm, smooth abaxially but slightly rough adaxially, apex 0.4–0.5 cm long, acute, margins reddish brown; dull green and slightly glaucous on both surfaces especially during fast growth, faintly banded, pale green when young; petiole 15–20(–30) cm long, concave-channelled; basal scaly leaves 4–5, 5–16 cm long, longest ones greenish, others purplish blue to green, membranous, grey-green margin

Note
This may be taken for {i}S. raffillii{/i}, but there are no bands at all on either surface, the plant is larger in size, with a thick peduncle, dark green-bluish leaves (glaucous when young), larger bracts and fewer flowers per cluster.
