Leaves spiral-distichous, 5–10, recurved-spreading, compressed-cylindric, 45–90 × 1.5–3 cm, 1.5–4 cm thick front to back, the outer gradually shorter, slightly rough, apex 0.6–1.3 cm long, hard and sharp but easily broken, white, with a brown band at base; channel from base to apex, several deep furrows running parallel to the channel all round the leaf, channel margins 2–15 cm from base, acute green whitish at base; leaf faintly banded when juvenile becoming bluish-green with age, numerous blackish-green longitudinal lines some to apex
