Distribution
So far known only from Malawi.
Ecology
In sand and thicket near lake shore, c. 480 m.
Morphology General Habit
Acaulescent herb with thick, creeping orange rhizome c. 3 cm diameter. Number of leaves per growth not known

Leaves 33 x 7.3 cm, lanceolate, apiculate, flat but folded at base, dark bluish green, mottled pale bluish-green, slightly rough to the touch on both upper and lower surfaces, with a prominent red margin

Rhachis 21 - 27 cm long, raceme cylindrical, 9 - 12 cm in diameter, densely many- flowered

Note
Pawek 7964 (inflorescence) and 10697 (leaf) from Njakwa Gorge in Northern Malawi may also belong to this species. Again, the styles are long- exserted but the raceme is much shorter, ± subcapitate, and the flowers are smaller, with the perianth 55 - 60 mm long. Sanseviera downsii was described from the Njakwa Gorge (Chahinian 2000) but that species is quite different, with cylindrical leaves and a perianth 33 - 42 mm long.
