Perennial herb to 30(60) cm high, probably geophytic, with a subglobose tuberous root up to c. 3 cm in diameter.

Leaves 5.5–10 × 1–4.5 cm, oblanceolate, tapering into a petiole up to 10 mm long; lamina with scattered ± cartilaginous hairs to 1 mm long on both surfaces, the hairs more numerous on the margins; midrib on the lower surface with a wing-like keel 0.5–0.75 mm wide; stipules glandular.

Cymes terminal and axillary, crowded towards the stem apex, 2–4-forked; peduncle up to 2 cm long; cyme branches c. 4 mm long, longitudinally ridged and sometimes with cartilaginous outgrowths below the bracts; bracts joined in a bract-cup c. 4 × 6.5 mm, notched to nearly halfway between rounded lobes, enveloping the involucre, pale green or pinkish with slightly darker veining.
