Morphology General Habit
Succulent perennial herb, with a thick fleshy rootstock; stems numerous, dark green, branching from the base, erect to ± 15 cm., or decumbent to 90 cm. long, 1.5–2 cm. thick, tessellated with prominent slightly upward pointing conical tubercles to 7 × 7 mm. at the base and ± 5 mm. high, bearing the leaves, in usually 8 tightly spiralled series.

Leaves obovate, to 3 × 1.8 cm., apex obtuse, apiculate, margin entire ± crisped; stipules evident as 3 stout persistent prickles to 2 mm. long on a horny pad surrounding the leaf scar.

Cymes on peduncles ± 4 mm. long, 1-forked, arising in the axils of the tubercles and usually flanked by a minute prickle; bract-cup slightly exceeding the involucre, ± 6 × 5 mm., shallowly notched between acute apices and prominent midribs, greenish white flushed with pink.
