Morphology General Habit
Succulent perennial herb, with a thick fleshy shortly rhizomatous rootstock; stems several, erect to 80 cm., sparsely branched, cylindrical, to 15 mm. thick, pale green, with 4 longitudinal grooves below each of the numerous spirally arranged leaf-scars.

Leaves sessile, broadly ovate, to 10 × 8 mm., thick and fleshy, minutely puberulous, quickly deciduous; stipules evident as a pair of 2–4-toothed flattened brown scales ± 1 mm. wide.

Cymes arising immediately above the leaf-scars on peduncles to 5 mm. long, 1–2-forked; bract-cup ± 3.5 × 3 mm., notched for 1/3 between obtuse apices and keeled midribs, greenish yellow.
