    Habit
    Erect woody perennial 0.5–1.5 m. tall.
    Stem
    Stems usually bright reddish purple, puberulous to densely glandular pubescent or villous, somewhat viscid.
    Leaves
    Leaves narrowly elliptic to narrowly lanceolate, 0.5–12(–16) cm. long, 0.8–3 cm. wide, acute at the apex, cuneate at the base, glabrous to shortly pubescent.
    Pedicel
    Pedicels axillary, extra-axillary or interpetiolar, 0.3–1.1 cm. long, bracteolate.
    Calyx
    Calyx yellow-green, vermilion at base, later vermilion all over, ± 3 cm. long, 7 mm. wide, with distinct basal swelling, puberulous to densely glandular-pubescent, villous or hispid; lobes very short, alternating with setose sinus-horns.
    Corolla
    Petals white or yellowish, vestigial.
    Stamens
    Stamens long-exserted.
    Disc
    Disc excentric.
    Pistil
    Ovary saccate near apex. Style exserted 1–1.5 cm.
    Fruits
    Capsule many-seeded.
