    Habit
    Erect plant, 1–1.5 m high.
    Branches
    Branches close to each other as in a broom, striate with recurved spines 3–5 mm long, also seen on terminal branches.
    Cladodes
    Cladodes evergreen, (1)2–3 in a fascicle, 5–10 × 1–1.5 mm long.
    Inflorescences
    Racemes simple, short, 20–50 mm long, many-flowered or reduced to a few flowers, borne in axils and along branches; bracts small, membranous or minutely spinous; pedicels 2-3 mm long, articulated near middle.
    Tepal
    Tepals obovate, 2–3 mm long, white with a pink tinge.
    Ovary
    Ovary with 4 ovules in each locule, globose, white.
    Fruits
    Berry red, ± 10 mm in diameter.
    Distribution
    Also in South Africa (Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape) and Swaziland.
    Ecology
    On sandstone and sandy soils; 0–20 m.
    Conservation
    Conservation notes: Localised coastal distribution in the Flora area; possibly Vulnerable.
