    Habit
    Much-branched evergreen shrub or tree (1) 2–6 (12) m. high, with scaly bark.
    Stem
    Young sterns 4-angled, soon becoming woody and terete.
    Leaves
    Leaves sessile; lamina (11) 20–30 (37) × 2·5–6 (10) mm., lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, acute at the apex, narrowing to a clasping base, with pinnate or ± reticulate venation, translucent glands (mostly longitudinal streaks or interrupted lines) and small marginal glandular dots (translucent or sometimes dark).

    Flowers solitary, terminal.
    Bracts
    Bracts (when present) leaflike, with dark marginal dots.
    Calyx
    Sepals ovate, somewhat concave, with dark submarginal dots, and sometimes also dark fringing glands.
    Corolla
    Petals yellow, (1·5) 2·5–3 cm. long, about 3 times as long as the sepals, often tinged with orange, with a few dark marginal dots or eglandular.
    Androecium
    Androecium of 5 stamen-fascicles, each with c. 30 stamens.
    Pistil
    Ovary 5-locular; styles 5 with only the lower parts united or almost free, 4–7 mm. long.
    Fruits
    Fruit capsular, 5-valved.

    Habit
    Much-branched evergreen shrub or small tree (0.3–)1–12 m. high, with scaly bark.

    Young stems 4-angled, but soon becoming woody and terete.
    Leaves
    Leaves narrowly elliptic to elliptic or narrowly oblong, ranging from 11 × 2.5 mm. to 60 × 7.5 mm., acute, narrowed to a ± broad clasping base, furnished with 3 or 5 veins running from the base to near the apex, usually with 1–8 cross veins and sometimes a reticulum of tertiary veins, and with linear, often interrupted, ± translucent glands and translucent or black, sparse or ± dense marginal glandular dots.
    Bracts
    Bracts leaf-like, with black marginal dots.
    Calyx
    Sepals ± unequal, ovate, acute to obtuse, with or without black marginal dots.
    Corolla
    Petals 1.5–4.3 cm. long, 0.5–2.6 cm. broad, orange-yellow to golden-yellow, sometimes marked outside with bright red, without black marginal dots.
    Stamens
    Stamens in 5 bundles of 30–40 each.
    Style
    Styles 5, united in the lower part.
    Fruits
    Capsule 5-valved.
