    Habit
    Shrublets or perennial herbs 0·2–0·6 m. high, with pellucid gland-dots on all parts.
    Leaves
    Leaves alternate, entire or deeply divided, sessile or petiolate, linear to narrowly oblanceolate.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence of terminal or axillary racemes or panicles.
    Flowers
    Flowers bisexual, 4-merous, pedicellate.
    Stamens
    Stamens 8, inserted at the base of an annular disk.
    Pistil
    Ovary of 2 united carpels, sessile, 2-locular and prominently 2-lobed at the apex; loculi 4–6-ovulate; style filiform, arising between the lobes of the ovary; stigma capitate.
    Fruits
    Fruit a capsule dehiscing ventrally by a slit.
    Seeds
    Seeds echinate.
