Morphology General Habit
Succulent perennial 15–35 cm high, spreading to 50 cm or more in diam., with a central stem to 20 cm high, 3 cm thick
Morphology Branches
Branches numerous, to 40 cm long, sparsely rebranched, 8–15 mm thick, with shallow tubercles 6–10 mm apart in 5 loosely spiral series, pale green with darker stripes around the spine-shields

Spine-shields oblong-triangular, to 7 x 5 mm; spines 1–3 cm long, usually robust; prickles 1–3 mm long

Note
Most (but not all) collections from the Hargeisa area, including the two syntypes, appear to represent smaller, less robust plants than those from further east, especially from N3, but no other differences can be detected. This is possibly no more than depauperate growth, resulting from the heavy overgrazing and trampling around Hargeisa.
