Morphology General Habit
Very similar to A. indica but usually more branched from the base, rarely over 50 cm high
Morphology Reproductive morphology Inflorescences
Usually with shorter inflorescences than A. indica, to 2.5 cm long, with only 1–3 female bracts each separated from the few male flowers by a peduncle; allomorphic flowers usually long-pedicellate, often arising from base of inflorescence, muricate and whitish-puberulous.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Inflorescences Bracts
Female bracts crenate, reaching 9–14 mm long, sometimes with some long gland-tipped hairs
Distribution
N1, 2 Ethiopia and west to Sierra Leone, south to N South Africa.
Note
The dividing line between this and A. indica is sometimes obscure as the allomorphic flowers and glandular hairs which provide a clear-cut separation are not always present. The isotype of A. somalium seen lacks both, but it does appear to belong here rather than with A. indica.
