Leaves few per culm, or one from uppermost sheath, or hardly any blade developed. Leaf blade linear, flat, 2–12(–17) cm long, 3–4 mm wide, scabrid on margins and midrib, apex acute Leaf sheath reddish or purple, 1.5–17 cm long.
