Note
Lye separated his subsp. albescens on “fewer and shorter leafblades and involucral bracts as well as whitish glumes and spikelets”. As regards the leaf size there is plenty of variation, none of it discontinuous; for East Africa, I have not seen any white-headed specimens of this species.
