    Shrubby perennial herb, 0.5–2 m tall, with pubescent stems.
    Leaves
    Leaves petiolate, elliptic to triangular-ovate, 1–2.5 × 0.5–1.5 cm, scabridulous; verticils 2(–4)-flowered.
    Bracts
    Bracts coloured, small, soon deciduous.
    Calyx
    Calyx purple, tubular-campanulate, 7–12 mm long, scabridulous.
    Corolla
    Corolla pale pink to deep red, 20–25 mm long; tube 13–15 mm long; anterior lip broad, usually longer than the posterior, with small hairs almost restricted to the posterior lip.
    Stamens
    Stamens scarcely exserted
