Habit
Shrub or small tree up to 4 m tall; young branchlets glabrous, except for pubescent buds
Leaves
Leaves alternate; blade elliptic to elliptic-obovate,1.5–6.5 x 0.8–3.8 cm, broadly cuneate to rounded at the base, rounded at the apex, entire or slightly crenate at apex only, glaucous, glabrous; petiole 3–20 mm long
Inflorescences
Flowers apparently functionally unisexual (only female ones seen), in dense sessile or subsessile few- to several-flowered sparsely pubescent inflorescences; peduncle less than 2.5 mm long
Calyx
Calyx tubular-campanulate, 5–6.5 mm long, not prominently veined or sulcate, glabrous or papillose outside, 3-lobed
Corolla
Corolla white; tube 6–7.5 mm long; lobes 5–6
Staminodes
Staminodes 5–6
Style
Style with 4–4.5 mm long stigmatic branches
Fruiting calyx
Fruiting calyx campanulate, 8–9 x 10–12 mm

Note
The plants from Somalia have comparatively small leaves (1.5–4 x 0.8–2.2 cm) and short petioles (3–10 mm), but otherwise agree well with those from Socotra (see Warfa in Nord. J. Bot. 8: 489–491, 1989).
